    VC Middle School Admissions Open House: Tell your family and friends! Valley Christian Middle School will celebrate the annual winter Admissions Open House on Saturday, 1/21 at 12:00 p.m.

    VC High School Admissions Open House: Tell your family and friends! Valley Christian High School will celebrate the annual winter Admissions Open House on Saturday, 1/21 at 2:00 p.m.

    Love and Logic: VC is offering a four week parenting class called Love and Logic. It will be taught by Superintendent, Ron Taylor and his wife Kathy. It will be held at VCES, Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting 2/9. The cost of the class is $35 per person or $65 per couple. Childcare is available. Registration and payment has been extended to Wednesday, 1/25. Contact Karen Garcia at 562-920-9902 or to sign up.

    Save the Date for Auction 2017! All school families and friends of VCS are invited to our largest fundraiser of the year. It will be on Friday, 3/31 at the Sheraton in Cerritos. Questions? Email Sarah at Postcards to arrive in mailboxes soon. 

    January Board Meeting has been moved to Wednesday, 1/25 to accommodate Cerritos City Council approval of the Event Center concept. 

    Broadway Showcase

    • The "Stronger" specialty number will rehearse today, 1/17 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and the boys' specialty "Nothing Like a Dame" will rehearse from 8:00-9:00 p.m today, 1/17 in the VCHS Chapel.
    • The Broadway Showcase Production Team is currently looking for parents that are interested in becoming a part of our Costume Team for service hours. There are two different roles we are looking for:
      • First, we are looking for parents that are extremely organized to be COSTUME COORDINATORS. These parents would help facilitate the distribution of costumes, approval of student-provided costumes, and the retrieval of costumes after the show closes. '
      • Second, we are looking for parents with SEWING experience to help put together certain costume pieces.

    Auction 2017: We are asking our preschool parents for any gift cards valued at $20.00 or more. These gift cards will help with our silent auction. The deadline has been extended to this Friday, 1/20. If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Fitzpatrick,

    Elementary School

    No School on Friday, 1/27 due to VCS Records Day

    Coffee and Carbs: all parents/guardians of 5th & 6th graders join us this Friday, 1/20 at 8:000-9:00 a.m. in the VCES Multipurpose Room. Hope to see you there!

    6th Grade & Their Parents: VCMS Admissions Information Tour This Saturday, 1/21 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Students and parents will get a chance to see the exploratory classes in action and meet the teachers.

    Students in Grades 3-8 are encouraged to try out for the Math Olympics.  Practice materials may be obtained. Tryouts are scheduled during lunch recess later in January. Grades 3/4 see Mrs. Davis, 5th-8th see Mrs. Hermann. Email for information.  

    Math Circle 2017 will begin Tuesday, 2/7. Please fill out the form and turn into the elementary office. 

    Service Hours Opportunity: Do you enjoy listening to students perform? Parents are needed as door monitors for the Fine Arts Festival runoffs on Wednesday, 2/15, 2:30-5:30 p.m. at the VCES campus. Please email the Middle School if you are available to help.
    Shake, Rattle & Roll: Registration is open for the January-February. Valley Christian After School Science Club for grades K-6.  Two classes are available for Wednesdays, 1/18, 1/25, & 2/1, 2/8 and Thursdays, 1/19, 1/26, 2/2, 2/9 from 3:00-4:00 p.m.  A digital copy of the registration form and information is available here. We hope this science program will inspire students to learn and marvel at God's creative handiwork in His creation. 
    Middle School

    Help Promote our Middle School! We have postcard-sized flyers at our MS office which we would LOVE to have you pass out to friends and family members who may be interested in VCMS. Use the postcards to invite them to our Admissions Open House on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. 

    8th Grade Parent Worldview Transition Meeting: Off to High School! Your child’s freshman year will be one full of transitions. We believe God created transitions and Scripture offers us insights about how we, as the body of Christ, may enter into and grow through such transitions. In this spirit, we invite every parent of a VC 8th grader to attend a special night regarding this on Tuesday, 1/24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Middle School chapel.

    VCMS Semester Ends this Friday 1/20. Tests, papers and projects may be fast and furious this week.

    Lost and Found: Is your student missing their jacket, uniform, lunch bag or shoes? Please have your child stop by the Lost and Found and see if they recognize any of their clothing. 

    Our Winter Sports Season is now in full gear. Come out and cheer on our young athletes!
    The VCMS Community Generously Raised a Total of $3,300 to support the Children of the Promise in Haiti this past Christmas. We are truly blessed to be a blessing! 
    High School

    No School on Friday, 1/27 due to VCS Records Day

    A Jostens Representative will be on Campus at Lunch Time on Tuesday, 1/31. All seniors will be receiving a mailing from Jostens with information about graduation items available for order. They will be measuring for caps and gowns (which are no charge to families) and they can take order forms at that time for additional graduation items that families choose to buy.     Senior Mixer: Saturday, 1/28, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on the football field. If you are able, please bring snacks to share! 

    LAST CHANCE to Purchase a Senior Yearbook Ad is January 31. Senior Parents, Grandparents or Guardians, this is your final chance to to purchase and submit a senior ad for the back of the yearbook. After this date, Jostens will no longer be accepting submissions. Please view instructions mailed out to parents, or visit the yearbook page on the VCS website.

    Please Note the Following Schedule for the High School This Week:

    Tuesday, 1/17 - Regular 7 Period day
    Wednesday, 1/18 - Chapel 7 Period day (2:45 dismissal)
    Thursday, 1/19 - Regular 7 Period day
    Friday, 1/20 - Regular 7 Period day
    VCHS Exams are next week, 1/23-1/26.
    • Students should arrive on campus before 8:30 a.m, or between 10-10:30 a.m. While on campus, students will be required to be in a testing room or remain in the library for the duration of the testing period. If a student does not have an exam, he or she is not required to be on campus.
    • VCHS students are not allowed to visit other campuses until 2:45 p.m.
    • Individual exam schedules are distributed to students. You can view the Exam Schedule or see it at the VC Family Resources Website.
    The canteen will be closed during exams. Only vending machines will be available to purchase food.
    • Buses will run at regular times (8:05 a.m. morning drop off, 2:55 p.m. afternoon departure).
    • The library will be open until 3:00 p.m.
    • During the exam blocks 8:30-10:0 a.m. and 10:30-12:00 p.m., students may not enter or leave campus.
    • Uniforms must be worn during finals or students will not be allowed to take final exams.
    VCHS Handbells will Perform at the Disneyland Resort as part of Disneyland's Community Arts Showcase at California Adventure. The group will play on the Hollywood Backlot Stage at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, 1/27. Congratulations to these students for making the audition!  If you have a pass to the park, we invite you to come see these students perform.
    Driver Education Class: Anyone interested in taking a Driver Education class at VCHS in February should stop by the high school office and pick up the flyer for more information. 
    "A Regal Affair", the VCHS Winter Dance, will be held on Saturday, 2/4 from 7:30-11:00 p.m. at The White House Event Center, 1238 S Beach Blvd Anaheim, CA 92804. 
    • To purchase tickets, students must have a signed Winter Dance Form for each ticket purchased. They are available in the High School office.
    • Semi-Formal dress is required. Tickets will be sold Thursday, 1/19 and Friday, 1/20 only, before & after school and at lunch on both days. Ticket prices are $50 for VCHS students and $55 for guests.

    Friends of VCS

    Grief Share will begin Thursday, 1/19, at 7:00 p.m. at First CRC of Artesia. Grief Share is a 13 week seminar and support group designed to help a person rebuild their life after their loss. 

    Lightshine 2017 Presents "Plug In Wonder-Working Power," a contemporary concert under the direction of Kay VanWeerthuizen. Presentations will be held at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, 18718 Grayland Ave. Artesia, CA 90701. No tickets are required; for more information click here.

This night of music will be on Friday, 1/27, at 7:00 p.m. at the William & Jane Bristol Civic Auditorium in Bellflower. Tickets are $20 and available online. Come out and support our VCS family!
